Aachen, Freiburg, and Cologne

Taken during my parents' trip to Germany in May 2009.  These three cities each have an impressive cathedral which serves as the center of town (and it's major landmark) but apart from this similarity are very distinct.
1.  One of the many statues in Cologne - this one shows off their unique sense of humor.
2.  One of the back towers of the Freiburg cathedral.
3.  Easily the most amusing gargoyle in Germany and one of the main attractions at the Freiburg cathedral.
4.  Charlemagne's throne, which he never sat in but was used in the coronation of 31 other German kings.  Oddly, it was originally meant to be Jesus' throne at the Last Judgment.
5.  Looking down the nave of the Cologne Cathedral.
6.  Aachen's central square with Charlemagne's statue.
7.  Some of the mosaic work from the late 19th Century in the Carolingian part of the Aachen cathedral.
8.  One of the (many) figures, each of which is life-size, on the exterior of the Cologne cathedral.
9.  Freiburg's "palace" built by an Italian noblewoman in the mid 19th Century and which now serves as the Museum for Ancient History.
