Coming Soon....

I'll be using this space to post projects that I've completed or that I'm working on, usually in the form of .pdf documents.  I'll be starting with my college theses and any publications that result from my work in labs, and should I have the opportunity to give presentations at conferences, the .pdf files of the presentation will go up here too.

German Studies Thesis

I'll be posting parts of my thesis - a new translation of the short story collection "The Enemy" by Erich Maria Remarque - up here as I start converting them to .pdf format.  In the process I will also give the short stories and introduction some "fresh eyes" to make sure that they still read well and correct any mistakes that I skipped the first few times around.  Rest assured that no major changes will be made.  After I get all the stories up individually, I will then combine them into a book format, including German and English Versions of my original Introduction and Translator's Notes.  Translations, of course, will be mine.  As far as I know, this site is the only place to find these stories in English outside of the hard copies of Arthur W. Wheen's 75-year-old translation at the library of the University of South Dakota, so lucky you.  Thanks again to Prof. Hans Rindisbacher for his comments and advising during the process!

University of Marburg

In an unexpected twist, I've had the great opportunity to teach two English courses - Academic Writing in the
Natural Sciences and Intensive English for Human Biologists - while living in Marburg.  Overall, I've enjoyed the
experience tremendously - I've gotten a lot out of it, even if it has been much more work than I could have ever
imagined.  I'll post some of my students' best work from the writing class here (only if they agree to it, of course), but in the meantime I thought that I'd let you try your hand at the final exam for the Intensive English for Human Biologists course.  The students did very well on it, and should you be the curious or competitive type you can even send in your answersusing the contact form and I'll let you know how you stack up.  Good luck!
