Trier and Luxembourg
Taken during my trip to Trier and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in May 2009.
1. Part of a surprisingly large display outside of the art museum in Luxembourg.
2. The medieval cloister of Luxembourg reflecting into the canal of the lower town (it's only about 3 streets large).
3. Some of the surviving defenses (the third curtain wall) of the fortress of Luxembourg.
4. The ridiculously ornate organ in the cathedral of Luxembourg.
5. Trier's Cathedral - originally built by Constantine and planned as the largest church in the world, now just the oldest church in Germany.
6. Trier also had an Archbishop - who built a very baroque palace.
7. The Porta Nigra, the largest surviving city gate from the Classical Period. Very impressive.
8. The Romans really loved Trier - these are the remains of the bath house, planned as the largest in the world, again by Constantine, but the plumbing never worked properly so it was quickly abandoned.
9. A crane used to unload cargo ships in the Medieval Era. The whole roof turned.
